Apologies to anyone mildly frustrated by the wait for new content. I’m working on several reviews, including one of our first holiday-themed telefilm of the season. Progress is a little slower now than usual due to a health hiccup, but I expect to have something for you by Monday.
Longtime readers might recall I had a hard knot in my underarm over a year ago, and underwent several tests over a period of months lasting into this year. Nothing new and exciting was revealed, though there was talk of ceasing the Humira that I take for Crohn’s and arthritis, in case it was causing a reaction. Now the discomfort has intensified and spread. My doctor felt around and wants to take another look at it next week.
In the meantime, I can’t take steroids to test whether it provides any relief, because it could interfere with the usefulness of the imaging. I’m not in severe pain or anything, just uncomfortable and profoundly irritated. Weakness in that arm and transient numbness in two of my fingers currently make everyday tasks take longer.
Sleeping through the discomfort is also challenging, so I’m going to deploy a special weapon tonight—a Burt Reynolds reversible pillow. On one side, Burt and Dolly Parton circa The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. On the other, a candy-coated Burt Reynolds Cosmo centerfold. I have no connection, personal or professional, to Your Pillow Guy (also known as Jason Mecier), the artistic genius from whom I purchased both this and a Bewitched pillow, but if you need a unique holiday gift for a weirdo in your life, he just might have you covered.

He needs to add one with Kristy McNichol on one side and Jimmy on the other!

First of all, sending you my best and hoping for some of the discomfort to subside. Second, that pillow is amazing! Thanks for the link too, I’m definitely going to be making a few purchases! Finally, it’s funny you posted this because in my (mostly) pictorial post today i included a shot of Dolly from that movie. Synchronicity!

Thanks, Michael. I’m glad you liked Jason’s work — looking through his catalog, I was a little sad we only have one couch! Late ‘70s/early ‘80s is my favorite Dolly era. You’ve got fun albums like “Heartbreaker” and “Here You Come Again,” but even better (or worse, which is better for some of us), cinematic pairings with Burt Reynolds and Sylvester Stallone.
